Esure

esure was founded in 1999 to offer cheaper insurance by using the internet as the primary source of communication. Telephone insurance had been launched by the same chairman, Peter Wood, in 1985 under the name of Direct Line.

esure prior to founding the company had been underwriting car insurance for the Halifax that is still managed by them. The company grew rapidly and in under four years had over l million customers. Sheila’s Wheels was founded in 2005 and has become one of the best-known ladies only insurance companies.

In 2001 esure began home insurance cover with contents no claims discount of up to 45% and now includes garden furniture and office equipment in the home. An optional extra is a pest cover that protects against infestations by rats, wasps, and squirrels.

It was in July 2002 esure joined forces with Sainsbury’s to offer car insurance and travel insurance was added in 2003.

The Meridian, in central Manchester is home to esure’s Claims Academy where claims staff receive their training this was given the ‘prior learning accreditation’ by the Chartered Institute of Insurance.
