It was in the early 1990’s they became a subsidiary of Sun Alliance (now the Royal and Sun Alliance) and with further use of technology they were able to trade electronically with major car insurers. They were also able to open a Telesales and Service Centre in Manchester and offered a freephone quotation line that linked all branches to the call centre.
During the 21st century Swinton’s have bought a French Insurance Co and in 2002 acquired Colonnade Insurance Brokers and added Budget to the list in 2006.
At fifty years old they have over 3,000 employees, are responsible for two million insurance policies, sales are supported by two UK call centres and have 442 branches making them the largest High Street chain in the UK.
